Lithium Infinity (Lihytech) is a spinout from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia.​

Founded in 2021, the company has received investments from Ma’aden, the national mining company of Saudi Arabia, and KAUST Innovation Venture (KIV).

Value-Creation Mission

The transportation sector worldwide, particularly the automotive industry, is progressively shifting toward electrification. ​

As a Saudi-based company, our 2024-28 mission is to scaleup our innovative Direct Lithium Extraction technology to secure the battery-grade lithium necessary for the 300,000 electric vehicles that the Kingdom aims to produce by 2030.​

The only Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology capable of extracting lithium from harsh brines having magnesium/lithium molar ratios of up to 3258 and lithium concentration as low as ~0.15 mM (i.e., 1 ppm), a feat beyond the reach of any other DLE technology.​

Our Approach

Lithium Infinity extracts lithium from low-grade geothermal and oilfield brines, using 10 billion tones of produced water annually to aim for 2.5 million tones of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) production.

Technology

The Science​

Our innovative technology has been developed by world-class scientists and researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). This cutting-edge solutions have garnered attention from subject-matter experts and recognition from reputable scientific publications, highlighting its effectiveness and transformative potential.​

Pilot Plant​

Our state-of-the art 10,000 ft2 pilot plant is located at KAUST Research and Technology Park (KRTP) and began operation in 2024. The plant received and successfully processed oilfields produced water, extracting battery-grade lithium with promising economics.

Field Demonstration

Our field demonstration units, under construction, will be mounted on 40 ft mobile containers that can be deployed and re-deployed at various sites to assess the techno-economic feasibility and further finetune the extraction process based on the specific characteristics of the potential asset.
